Het Smelt

Het Smelt (When It Melts) tells the story of Eva who, many years after a scorching hot summer that went completely out of control, returns to her home village with an ice cube in the boot of her car to reckon with her past and leave behind a haunting message. 

First released in 2016 on paper as bestseller from author Lize Spit, Het Smelt was an instant hit in Belgian bookstores. For renowned actress Veerle Baetens to turn this story into a movie – as her debut in the directing chair – was quite impressive. The movie brings you past joyous memories of long forgotten summers and is filled with nostalgia, all the while it carries a heavy story that bursts like an overripe pimple at the end, leaving the viewer with a gutted feeling. 

No one could escape this release, as the movie was in every possible talk show, newspaper, magazine… in the weeks running up to and after its release. Day One took care of the PR and marketing campaign for this release, securing nationwide coverage and overall great results.
